American Optical M602. Pre 1937-Vintage Lensometer

American Optical M602. Pre 1937 (that year and 1968 were banner years for updates in our industry.) Most likely the first model produced under that name after the change from DeZeng Optical.

Description

Okay, so let’s try something. Here’s “History 101”. I have many old and vintage lensometers in my personal collection. Some of them you may have seen before, many you haven’t. I’ll post real pictures of these units in the condition I have them in, dust and grime included if I haven’t gotten around to polishing them again. I will also give any background I may have on them. Please feel free to provide any corrections or additions as you see fit, some of what I tell you was passed on by others when I was younger and they were much older.

Here’s number one. American Optical M602. Pre 1937 (that year and 1968 were banner years for updates in our industry.) Most likely the first model produced under that name after the change from DeZeng Optical. Note the sliding stage for left and right lenses. Virtually extinct, I’ve only seen one other that wasn’t on someone’s collection. Still usable, very heavy.
